Sean T. VICES: It's not just an album...
2005-12-03 10:13:42
I remember the day I was laying on the couch, toasted from the chronic I had just smoked...when in walked my friend who worked at the local Record Bar with an armload of albums to check out. Now, he had been dead on with the likes of QueensRyche, Leatherwolf, Black N Blue...just to name a few. But when that needle hit the vinyl of a freshly opened album and the snare drum lit up my mid's, followed by the blazing guitar work so familiar to us fans as "Heavy Metal Shuffle", it was all I could do to NOT get sucked into the depths of those twin 12-inch woofers. Fortunately, I didn't fight very long because within half a minute my mind and body was taken over by what I perceived to be the very embodiment of Heavy Metal. After the first side of the album I sat up, cranked my eyes open, my head spinning and I asked of my friend, "Who in the FUCK was that?!!" He looked at me with a smile and said, "Pretty fucking tasty, eh?" I had never heard such a pounding, sizzling, thumping sound in my life, a sound that took me in its grip and tossed me around in my enhanced daze (Is that an oxymoron?). I listened to every instrument, every vocal, concentrating on just one aspect, studying the music like I was going to write a thesis on it...picking out the individual styles, memorizing virtually each note from each member on each song. I literally engulfed myself in this album...even staring at the album cover during those hallucinogenic weekends. (Yeah, the clouds really do roll across the sky) During the next five years, I lost count at not only how many cassettes I chewed up, how many albums I let get dusty, and how many people I turned on to the sound of Kick Axe. For many many years VICES remained my alltime fave album (until Thriller came out....HA !!! Gotcha...was just kidding). To this day, I still have a fresh, un-opened still-in-the-plastic-wrapper VICES album. Even when it seemed I would never locate it on CD, I still refused to expose it to the dust and dead skin and pollen and other assorted shit that albums love to collect. I am now 41 years old, been married twice, traveled around the world... and STILL throw on KICK AXE: VICES from time to time...and every time is like hearing it new. From this fan, I bow before you and say, "Thank you fucking thank you for rocking MY world for over 20 years". Oh yeah, you can edit the bad stuff if you want...but why take out the fun of having a guest book....eh?

Guys, this is a very exciting moment for me. My two friends and I saw you play at a hole in the wall bar called DJ’s Night Club in Colorado Springs over 21 years ago. The place was big enough for about 150 people and the only rock bar in he springs. I had the best rock experience of my life. There was a cloud of fog lit with bright white lights and this awesome roar of guitars, just then a vocalist’s face emerged from the fog and from that point on my ears and soul have been living that night For what seams an eternity I have casually been looking for snippets of the past whishing that I would find the vices album on cd. My friends and I had all exhausted our cassette tapes by playing them over and over and over. Tonight I have learned that the band that created such a lasting memory has a couple more great albums for me to get a hold of and they are back together and touring. I live in Orlando and would love nothing more than to once again have my ears ring for three days straight from the awesome rock you guys produce. Better to burn out than fade away.

Dwayne Sallie In a time long ago, in a place far away, there was born a band that would Rock the World!

Great to hear the new tunes, definatly Kick Axe all the way. The first concert I'd ever gone to was Kick Axe With special guests Hex in Yorkton. The event lit a passion for the music. I'd been fortunate enough to see the Rock the World show at Barn 22 just outside of Grayson, Sk. Thankx for the music, come around and see us again.

Amazing how while searching for Trust, found out KickAxe was back after almost two decades. Saw you in 1984 twice, in San Francisco w/Judas Priest and in Oakland w/ Whitesnake and Quiet Riot (I still have both tickets stubs), I don't live in the Bay Area anymore but in Mexico City where I would love to watch in tour sometime soon. Cheers!
